Digital Maps in DXF Format

DXF (Drawing eXchange Format) is a graphical data interchange format used by e.g. AutoCAD. Vector maps in this format (in the ASCII variant) may be used by WAsP after a conversion by the Map Editor. The binary variant of the DXF-format is not supported.

Please note, that the terrain information (height contours) must be contained as direct drawing objects, i.e. contained in the so-called ENTITIES SECTION of the DXF file. Drawing information in compound drawing objects, defined in the so-called BLOCKS SECTION, cannot be accessed by the WAsP map editor.

It is still possible to use the stand-alone DOS-program DXF2MAP for conversion.

A related graphical format is DWG, used by AutoCAD itself and by some map suppliers. DWG-files can be converted to DXF-files by the software program DCONVERT (though not for Windows 95), obtainable as freeware from the guest page of the OpenDWG-Allience.
