Dear WAsP 7 user,

 

The WAsP Team will stop supporting WAsP 7 by the 31st of December 2003

WAsP 7 was sent out free of charge to all WAsP 6 users in 2000 without any time limit on the technical support. However, the number of WAsP users is now so large that we have been forced to introduce a time limit to the support service, in order to give all of our customers the best possible service. Because of the increased demand on our support service and the release of WAsP 8 in January 2003,  we will stop supporting WAsP 7 by the 31st of December 2003. WAsP 7 users can of course still work with the program after this date.

 

WAsP 8, released in January 2003, can be obtained by WAsP 7 users for a very low upgrading price. See price list and order form at http://www.wasp.dk/Order/OrderForm.html. With the purchase of WAsP 8, one year of technical support and updates to WAsP 8.x is included in the price of the upgrade.

 

The WAsP team is now updating WAsP 8 only. Therefore, in order to get the best possible support, we encourage users of WAsP 7 to upgrade their licence before the end of this year. Please take the time to read the following about the main new important features of WAsP 8:

 

Wind farms with mixed turbine types

The wind farm module has been extended to support also wind farms consisting of wind turbines of different types regarding hub height and power curves. In addition, obstacles can now influence the turbine sites in the farm.

 

RIX number

Evaluation of site elevation and site RIX value is now integrated in the wind resource predictions for met-stations, turbine sites and resource grid points.

 

Reporting
Reporting facilities have been introduced for all calculational objects (wind atlases, met-stations, observed wind climates, turbine sites, wind farms and resource grids).

 

New and more accurate power calculation procedure

The power production calculation procedure has been changed. So, for the same input data, WAsP 8 may not give exactly the same results as previous versions of WAsP. However, the WAsP 8 results will be more accurate.

 

Dongle-based Licencing procedure

A new dongle-based licencing procedure has been introduced with WAsP 8. This allows easy moving of a WAsP installation from one computer to another – without need to involve the Risoe WAsP team to get new unlock-codes.
