Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data

Version 2 (the 'finished' data set) of the SRTM 3 arc-second elevation data set is now available for land areas between 57°S and 60°N.

These grid data can be used to make height contour maps for the WAsP flow model, though some editing close to the sites may still be required. In addition, the data set now contains a detailed land-sea mask: the SRTM Water Body Data set.

How to make a WAsP orography map from the data is described in this page. The instructions may seem somewhat elaborate, but the entire procedure can be done in less than half an hour. New and updated procedures and software are being developed; some third party software is listed here.

Download of SRTM data

The different Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data sets can be downloaded from the SRTM site. The site contains the following documentation and data sets:
