WAsP – the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program |
The IEC61400-1 standard provides guidelines on turbine design and verification of the assumed site conditions. WAsP Engineering will estimate most of these conditions, but not the added turbulence from the wakes of nearby turbines. However, these calculations are provided by the Windfarm Assessment Tool (WAT) - a utility program processing the results of a WAsP Engineering script. This script is also calling WAsP so you need licenses for both programs to produce necessary input for WAT.
The combination of WAsP and WAsP Engineering provides mean- and extreme-wind climates at any turbine site in a wind farm including, for all turbine positions:
This is nearly everything needed for wind-related aspects of the wind farm assessment in the IEC61400-1 standard. With WAT you can add calculation of the effective turbulence intensity, including wake effects by the method of Appendix D of the standard.
WAT can estimate effects of array management, i.e. shut down of selected turbines for certain combinations of wind speed and direction.
