WAsP – the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program

Windfarm Assessment Tool (WAT)

WAT is a free utility for

  • IEC site assesment
  • Assessment of grid curtailment and wind-sector management
  • Terrain assessment for IEC power-performance measurements

You will need twin licenses for WAsP and WAsP Engineering to generate input files. To use all features of WAT 3, you will need a combination of WEng 3 and WAsP 10.

New features in WAT 3

  • Wind-sector management by alternative turbine modes of operation as a supplement to full shut-down
  • Import and export of sector-management rules
  • Turbulence corrections by reference mast data
  • Support for new IEC 61400-1/A1 sector-based complex terrain assessment
  • AEP estimates under grid limitations
  • More flexible models for turbine class S turbines
  • Temporary blocking of AEP calculations (useful for big projects)
  • Wind-speed dependent WEng turbulence intensity (useful for offshore projects)
  • Improved object hierarchy editing
  • Model options stored with project
  • Legend for main plot
  • Faster calculation
  • Better error messages

Screen dump from the WAT user interface. The main plot shows turbulence intensities including wake effects and array management. The upper plot shows the effective turbulence intensity as function of wind speed.

Notes

[1] The installation package no longer includes WAsP Engineering 2 scripts generating WAT input - go to WEng2Scripts if needed.
[2] The help file is included in the installation package. If you choose to download the standalone help file, you might need to unblock it before Windows allows you to read its content. This is done by right-clicking the help file in the Window file manager and selecting 'properties | unblock'.
