WAsP – the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program |
WAsP 9 (and 8) will run on a modern PC with minimum 133 MHz processor, 32 MB RAM and 80 MB free hard disk space. However, at least 800 MHz processor and 128 MB RAM are recommended, especially for large projects.
Windows XP or later is recommended. It is no longer possible to install and use WAsP on Windows 98. Various updates and patches from Microsoft may be required for WAsP 9 to be installed and run on Windows 2000. (WAsP 8 would run readily on Windows 2000, though.)
The installation is delivered as a Windows Installer package (MSI file) called Wasp9Setup.msi. Windows Installer version 3.0 is required to run the installation. If this is not the case, please see below., if this is not already set up, then run the small program called Wasp9Setup.exe which will setup the installer and then automatically launch the MSI file for the installation to begin.
The installation includes an updated (and we hope more reliable) dongle driver setup. This takes a while to run, and during that time the installation will pause while displaying the message 'Installing drivers (This may take some time)'. It may seem that the installaiton has hanged, but don't worry: it will resume after some time.
WAsP and its components are installed in the program folder ..\Program Files\Wasp\Bin\. The name "Program Files" may be different according to national language conventions. Being installed by *.msi files (in a few cases by *.exe files), the WAsP program components are registered with the Windows operating system. Consequently, un-installation of the program should never be performed by manual deletion of program files, but by use of the Add/Remove facility of the Windows Control Panel.
Run the alternative installation Wasp8Setup.exe file instead. This will first set up the Windows Installer and then launch the actual installation. You may need to reboot before the installation can continue. Running this file instead of the MSI file will not cause any problems, even if you already have the Windows Installer on your computer.
