Help on download and installation
If you are not quite sure what to do now, you may want to read a little
background information:
- First, check the system requirements.
- Also, take a look at the update
note –
and the list of known
issues.
- If you haven't already done so, please read through the installation
guide.
Installing WAsP 8 from scratch
- Download the installation zip files to your computer and unzip the files. Please
change as appropriate – to conform with your national Windows operating
system version – the suggested destination folder "C:\Program
Files\WAsP\Install".
- Begin the installation by running either the WAsP8Setup.msi or the
executable file WAsP8Setup.exe.
- Unless you want to run WAsP in demo-mode make sure that a valid WAsP 8
licence is installed. A WAsP 7 licence is not sufficient: you need a
separate WAsP 8 licence. See the licencing
guide for details.
- Install/upgrade the WAsP Map Editor by means of the Add/Remove Programs
utility in the Control Panel of the operating system. Un-install any old
version and install the new one, either referring to the new installation
file, or by activating the installation file directly in the Windows
Explorer.
Updating an existing WAsP 8 installation
If you have already installed WAsP 8.x, you should
uninstall this first and then download and install the full WAsP 8.3
installation.
Installation problems
Did you experience problems during the installation? This may
be due to a dongle driver already present, but unconventionally installed – look in the following installation problem note
on how to cope with this problem.
Should I un-install WAsP 7 first?
There is no need to remove WAsP 7.3 before installing and using WAsP 8. However, we cannot guarantee that WAsP 8 will run
together with earlier versions of WAsP 7; these should be updated to WAsP 7.3 before installing WAsP 8.
There are some requirements on the sequence of installing WAsP 7.3 and WAsP 8;
these are described in the
WAsP 7/8
coexistence note. If and when you want to remove WAsP 7, please observe the following:
- If you have saved any of your work into the WAsP folders, then you should make sure to take backup copies of them before uninstalling.
- Use the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control panel to remove the
software; do not delete files manually.
