WAsP – the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program

System requirements

Hardware requirements

WAsP 10 (and 9 and 8) will run on a modern PC with minimum 133 MHz processor, 32 MB RAM and 80 MB free hard disk space. However, at least a 800 MHz processor and 128 MB RAM are recommended, especially for large projects.

WAsP 10 and 9 will run on 64-bit computers. Please note, that the older parallel-port WAsP dongles will probably not work on 64-bit machines in any case: you must use a USB dongle.

Software requirements

Windows XP or later is recommended. It is no longer possible to install and use WAsP on Windows 98. WAsP 9 can be installed and run on Windows 2000, but various updates and patches from Microsoft may be required. (WAsP 8 would run readily on Windows 2000, though.)

Installation

The installation is delivered as a Windows Installer package (*.MSI file), possibly contained in a ZIP-archive. E.g. for the WAsP 10 main program the installer package is called Wasp10Setup.msi. Windows Installer version 3.0 (or later) is required to run this installer package. See the Installation guide for details.

The installation includes an updated (and we hope very reliable) dongle driver setup. This takes a while to run, and during that time the installation will pause while displaying the message 'Installing drivers (This may take some time)'. It may seem that the installation has hanged, but don't worry: it will resume after some minutes.
