WAsP – the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program

WAsP 8.1

This page describes the first public release of WAsP 8.01.0057, the bug fixes and other changes made. Any previous version of WAsP 8 must be updated using the full installation.

New features and improvements in this release

Existing bug

There is an unimportant bug in connection with exporting resource grids: exporting may sometimes lead to an irritating, complete re-calculation of the resource grid. For a detailed description of the bug, and how to work around it, see the relevant Known Issues paragraph.

Problems fixed in this release

Only the bugs which might have affected all end-users are included in this list. Some issues only affected test users, and some issues are one-machine-only type of anomalies. The issues are numbered for our reference.

Editing obstacle angles

Issue #346: When editing an obstacle's location, the first and second angles can now be edited together, so any values can be entered naturally without encountering irritating restrictions when moving from one to the other.

Installation of WindPro alongside WAsP can cause problems

Issue #466: When you install WindPro on to a machine with WAsP already installed, a separate copy of an earlier version of a shared  file is installed and registered, making the later version unavailable for WAsP. This prevents WAsP from opening any new projects.

LIB files from the European wind atlas cannot be read by WAsP8

Issue #470: EWA *.lib files contain a 13th column of data which WAsP 8 cannot accept.

Hub height in wind farm not always determined by WTG member

Issue #481: If re-opening some site locations from file, their hub heights do not reliably assume the default value of the associated wind turbine generator.

Resource grid with a single (1) point cannot be reloaded

Issue #504.

Slight discrepancy when a project exported and re-imported

Issue #438: This obscure problem arises when maps contain co-ordinate point data values with more than 7 digits. Is unlikely to affect results significantly, but the (very minor) differences might be distracting.

OWC reporting failure

Issue #465: The reporting engine is unable to find the right style sheet for rendering the HTML report generated.

Minimising the obstacle group window causes an error message

Issue #468.

Confusing project parameter name "Default roughness"

Issue #472: "Default roughness" does not refer to the background roughness if the map contains no roughness data, but rather is the value used when creating an empty roughness rose. The label is now revised.

Parameter "True upwind direction in BZ model" doesn't work

Issue #480: Changes to this project configuration parameter have no effect on the model output.

Cancelling a wake calculation leaves progress monitor showing

Issue #484: Under some circumstances, if the wake calculations are cancelled, the progress indicator dialog remains visible until WAsP is restarted.

Exceptions from wake model not reported properly by GUI

Issue #490: If the wake model has a problem to report, the text of the error is not correctly displayed by the main program.

Wind farm window site list not sorting correctly

Issue #274: Site list: sorting order not correct if numbers in column have different number of digits, i.e. 8.989 and 10.012.

WAsP 8 can't import *.rds roughness roses

Issue #461: Roses saved out from DOS WAsP cannot be loaded into version 8.

Source file trace info not getting machine and user names

Issue #471: Source file trace information embedded in WAsP projects does not include correct user information.

Problems when a non-calculatable wind atlas in hierarchy

Issue #483: If you have a hierarchy with a wind atlas that cannot be calculated because there's no OWC, but which does have a met. station, then you get an error when trying to calculate turbine sites.

Wrong size icons used in windows explorer for registered files

Issue #330: Seems that if you have windows explorer to show large icons, the small icons are simply rescaled up.

Very little graphical problem in "File differences – dialog"

Issue #456: Part of a label does not appear correctly.

'Wasp on my computer' recognises Win98SE as not-SE

Issue #460.

Copy to clipboard notification popup not appearing

Issue #489 : The "copied to clipboard" popup confirmation label only appears for some windows.

Unlicenced wasp throws a funny error on WF export

Issue #559: The error message is misleading.

Empty yellow pop-up labels in hierarchy

Issue #534: For a couple of hierarchy members, in some circumstances, the tool tip can be empty.

Export of 8-sector wind atlas to *.lib file wrong

Issue #529.

One-point resource grids cannot be displayed in spatial view

Issue #514.

Pop-up hint for resource grid export to file should mention Surfer

Issue #502: It's not clear that the export to file will export to Surfer GRD file.
