WAsP – the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program

WAsP Engineering course information

A WAsP Engineering course takes 3 days. You can see when the next one is scheduled for here.

The aims are to explain theoretical background and limitations of the WAsP Engineering and to train efficient use of the program. The main topics are estimation of extreme winds, flow angles, wind shear, and turbulence in complex terrain, plus turbulence in wind farms according to the IEC 61400-1 (Ed.3) standard. The WAsP Climate Analyst, the Windfarm Assessment Tool and WAsP Engineering scripting will be introduced . The WAsP Engineering course contains more theory than the standard WAsP course.

The course is intended for wind energy professionals seeking a better understanding of the WAsP Engineering program. Underlying theoretical aspects will be presented, however, the course will stress practical experience and examples on the use of WAsP Engineering. Knowledge of WAsP is not required, but would be very helpful. Basic knowledge of PCs and Windows is assumed.

Registration

Courses are announced here. Please follow the hyperlink to the registration form and return the completed form by mail or fax. If you are unable to meet the PC system requirements please note this in the "special remarks" on the registration form. Please note that the number of participants is limited.

Course fee

Unless otherwise specified, the course fee covers tuition, course materials and data, three lunches, one course dinner, light refreshments etc. Travel and accommodation are not included. See the registration form

Cancellations

When notified received up to two weeks before the course starts, we charge 50% of the course fee. For cancellations received later than that, we charge the full course fee. In case you should not be able to attend after all, you are of course welcome to send one of your colleagues instead. Please note that cancellations are accepted in writing only.

Presentation

The courses are presented by Hans E. Jørgensen and Morten Nielsen from the Wind Energy Division at Risø DTU. The language on all courses is English.

Participant computers

Participants are expected to bring their own laptop computers for performing exercises with the necessary WAsP Engineering software installed. If this is not possible, please let us know when registering. Participants may install the WAsP software from a special course download page which we have provided for the purpose.

PC system requirements

WAsP Engineering 2.0 is designed for Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7. A normal size project with a full 12 sector extreme wind climate analysis needs about 300 MB of memory, and could keep the machine very busy for about one minutes. We recommend a machine with at least 2 GB physical RAM and a processor of at least 500 MHz. In order to make our reporting tool work MS Word and MS Excel has to be installed on your machine.
