WAsP – the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program

Course information

Standard WAsP and WAsP Engineering courses

Every year several hands-on WAsP and WAsP Engineering courses are given. Each course lasts for 3 days and we aim at balancing the number of teachers with the number of students, so that each participant is ensured optimal learning and training.

As a general rule, we give at least one course in Denmark. In addition – based on wind energy activities and user requests – we give around two courses at locations outside of Denmark. We also give courses to individual companies or groups of interested participants.

The standard courses are designed to offer:

WAsP:

  • practical experience and confidence in using the software to perform wind resource assessments including wind data analysis and wind climate estimation.
  • an understanding of the basic concepts of the wind atlas methodology.

WAsP Engineering:

  • practical experience and confidence in using WAsP Engineering for the estimation of extreme winds, flow angles, shear and turbulence in complex terrain
  • some of the theoretical background for the calculations, and understanding of the limitations of the program

The courses are offered in English, and are run by members of the WAsP and WAsP Engineering teams. The course programmes may be found here:  WAsP and WAsP Engineering

Participants are expected to bring their own laptop computers for performing exercises – with the necessary WAsP software installed. If this is not possible, please let us know when registering. Participants may install the WAsP software from a special course download page which we have provided for the purpose.
